Namibia Red Cross Society have come up with a climate change mitigation initiative that is funded by the European Union.
The aim of the project is to promote the use of renewable forms of energy and energy efficient technologies in rural communities.

The project identified an energy efficient stove model which could be easily integrated into the traditional cooking practices. That stove is called: The elephant stove.
The advantages of using it includes, saving on wood because it uses less firewood. Which makes it environmentally friendly. It uses less smoke. Cooks faster. It’s easy and safe to use.

The community members who partook in the elephant stove initiative were rewarded with Solar lamps.
The use of solar lamps is crucial for these off-grid communities. Learners are using them at night to be able to study and they also use them to charge their phones. The solar lamps are well received by the beneficiaries.
